Talk about shells

Examine them. Where do they come from? What lives in them? Pass around a large shell and listen to the ocean.

Put some shells in your backyard beach if you haven’t already.

Finger Play--Five Little Seashells

Five little seashells sleeping on the shore -
(Hold up five fingers, bending down on finger for each verse)
Swish! went a big wave, and then there were four.
(Move arms, palms up, to make the waves)
Four little seashells quiet as can be -
Swish! went a big wave, and then there were three.
Three little seashells pearly and new -
Swish! went a big wave, and then there were two.
Two little seashells lying in the sun -
Swish! went a big wave and then there was one.
One little seashell, it can't run -
Swish! went a big wave and now there are none.
Five little seashells gone out to sea,
(Point out to sea)
Wait until morning and they'll return to me.
(Point at self)

Shell Necklaces

Make seashell necklaces. I have some shells with holes in them we strung on twine.

Shell Collage

Make collage pictures from shells and broken shells if you have any.

Sand & Shells Snack

Give each child a small cup of cooked macaroni shells. Have them stir in 1 tablespoon of margarine. Then have the children sprinkle their buttered shells with 1 table spoon Parmesan cheese. Enjoy.
