Everybody Scream for ICE CREAM!!!!!

Poems & Stories

Chocolate Ice Cream Cone by Kenny Roberts

My mama said if I'd be good,
She'd send me to the store
She said she'd bake some Gingerbread
If I would sweep the floor

She said if I would make the bed
And watch the telephone
That she would send me out to get
A chocolate ice cream cone

And so I did the things she said
And then she made some Gingerbread
Then I went out, just me alone
And got my chocolate ice cream cone

While coming back I stubbed my toe
Upon a big old stone
Now need I tell you that I dropped
My chocolate ice cream cone

A little puppy came along
And he took a great big lick
And so I hit that mean old dog
With just a little stick

Then he bit me where I sit down
And he chased me all over town
So, now I'm lost, I can't find my home
And all because of that chocolate ice cream cone
And all because of that chocolate, (Chocolate-yodel)
Chocolate ice cream cone

I scream!
You scream!
We all scream for
ICE CREAM!

"Eighteen Flavors"
By Shel Silverstein

Eighteen luscious, scrumptious flavors
Chocolate, lime and cherry,
Coffee, pumpkin, fudge banana
Caramel cream and boysenberry.
Rocky road and toasted almond,
Butterscotch, vanilla dip,
Butter brickle, apple ripple,
Coconut and mocha chip,
Brandy peach and lemon custard,
Each scoop lovely, smooth and round,
Tallest ice-cream cone in town,
Lying there (sniff) on the ground.

Little Miss Muffet
Taken From A Cup Of Starshine Poems and Pictures for Young Children

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on her tuffet
Eating a chocolate ice-cream
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
And said, " Give me some or I’ll scream."

Ice Cream Flannel Story (sent in by Nancy)

Make alot of different colored circles for the scoops . Make a cone and a bowl all out of flannel. I use my double fold flannel board and stand it upright for a tall board. It is one of my famous make up as you go stories. It has a lot of interaction with the kids so it is good for thier language skills and imagination. Now remember it is different everytime you tell it because it is made up as you go.

Once there was a little girl (or boy) named_____________. She was a very, very lucky girl. Her mom was going to stay home from work and spend the whole day with her. (ask if they ever get a day to mom all for themselves, etc.) This little girl's mom asked her what she wanted to do most. Now, her mom already knew but she wanted to ask just to make sure. "GO TO THE MALL!" the little girl said. (discuss if they like to go to the mall and why). Guess why she wanted to go to the mall? (let them make guesses) . She liked to go to the ice cream store. (How many have an ice cream store in the mall?) They got ready and climbed in the car. She almost forgot to buckle up she was so excited. When they got to the mall, they went to the toy store, went to the pet shop and when it was almost time to go home , they went to the ice cream store. There were so many flavors (let them tell what flavors they like best) she could not decide. Finally, she made a choice (put up cone shape and first circle, let them help what flavor it might be). She chose blue for bubble gum, yummy. Then she asked for pink, (strawberry). She still wanted another and another, and another (add circles of ice cream as you go). The store lady was getting a little worried because it was getting so tall. (just have fun with it... when you get to the last circle {I have about 12 colors} say the following: "The little girl said, "Oh my! I better be careful when I lick this!" (let them show you how to lick etc, very softly and slowly). Mom wasn't sure about this tall cone either. She had a very worried look on her face. "Mom," the little girl said, "I am afraid I picked tooooooo many flavors this time. What shooould I do?" (let them think and throw out some ideas). Then bring out the flannel bowl and start to put the circles in it. Leave the first circle on the cone. The mommy told the little girl, "That is it! That is a very good choice. We will put it in a bowl and take it home to share with the rest of the family." She left her very favorite bubble gum scoop on the cone to eat on the way out of the mall.

Make flannelboard pieces for this poem by Carrie Lacher, using a cone shape and these ice cream scoops .

First we need a cone (brown felt cone shape)
Nice and crunchy.
Then we need some ice cream,
Sweet and yummy,
Scoop 'em on; stack 'em on'
Up to the sky.
We love ice cream; my, oh my!

First comes vanilla,
Cold and sweet. (white felt ice cream scoop)
Then comes chocolate (brown scoop)
A delicious treat.
Here's some strawberry; (red/pink scoop)
Orange sherbet, too, (orange scoop)
A super-duper scooper cone
Just for you!

One scoop, two scoops,
Three scoops, four.
We love ice cream
Let's have some more!

Also have available a blue scoop (blueberry), yellow scoop (lemon sherbet),etc....and change the words of the poem.

ICE-CREAM COLORS

We have ice cream, the best in town,
Let us begin with chocolate brown.
Now, let us scoop us some bubble-gum pink,
It is sweet and yummy, the best, some think.
Here is ice cream minty and green,
It is the creamiest I have ever seen.
Yellow ice cream is lemony and tart,
We like its taste from the very start.
Scoops of blueberry would make my day,
Look at all this ice cream, hip, hip hurray!
Red ice cream is a strawberry delight,
All these scoops are a heavenly sight.
Vanilla white is a popular flavor,
It tastes very good to an ice-cream craver.
Purple ice cream really gives me a kick,
Good and yummy till the very last lick.
Ice cream, ice cream, what a cool sensation,
We love ice cream in any combination!

(This could also be made into a flannel board story.)

Ice Cream Cone Flannel board

Make felt ice cream cones Place them on the board as you say the rhyme.

Five little ice cream cones
so good to eat.
The first one said, I’m a summer time treat.
The second one said, it’s such a hot day
The third one said, I’m melting away.
The fourth one said, don’t lose your top.
The fifth one said, oh dear , ker-plop! (Place the last cone upside down.)
