You need red, white, blue construction paper cut into strips long enough to wrap around a toilet paper roll. Star stickers and streamers cut from crepe paper. Glue three strips of construction paper in red, white and blue around toilet paper roll, add star stickers then staple streamers to bottom. Then let children run and wave them outside. You can also add a yarn string at top for a wind sock. Have the kids play tag with their streamers. ![]() Flag Puzzle Find a picture of the American flag. Make several color copies. Glue the copies to tag board. Cut each flag into puzzle pieces. Cut each puzzle in different sizes to challenge the students. Put each puzzle in a separate bag. To avoid mix-ups, color code the backs of the pieces and the bag. ![]() Fourth of July Sorting Game Cut small, medium-sized, and large star shapes and bell shapes out of red, white, and blue construction paper. Mix up the shapes. Let your children sort the shapes according to color, shape, or size. ![]() Patriotic Bubbles Color one container of bubble solution red and another container blue. Blow bubbles and catch on white construction paper. Looks nice for 4th of July!! ![]() Flag match game Obtain pictures of the flags of the world. Make two color copies of each (they need to be about the same size) Then glue each flag to an index card and play memory. ![]() Star Sizing Cut out many different sized stars. Ask the children to line up the stars from largest to smallest. Star Numbers Cut out ten star shapes. Number them one to ten. Ask the children to line up the shapes from one to ten. ![]() Star Colors Cut out many star shapes from different colors. Ask the children to sort the stars by color. ![]() Bean bag toss Have your child toss bean bags into a box with star or red wrapping paper on it. You can use masking tape to mark where the child should stand. ![]() Lacing Cards Cut colored posterboard into a star shape and punch holes around the edges. Them let your child lace yarn or a shoestring into the cards. ![]() Picture Matching Find Forth of July stickers. Place 2 identical stickers on the left and right sides of an index card. Cut the index in half, cut in a jig-jag form. Use a highlighter to highlight the edges. Do this with many different stickers. Have the child match the stickers, and line up the two halves of the index card. ![]() Patriotic Costume 2 sheets of heavy red tag board stapler scissors sparkly pipe cleaner headband red shorts Staple red tag board together to form a tube. Cut out two eye holes. Bend sparkle pipe cleaner around head band to look like a fuse. Put the head band on. Put on Red shorts. Slip on the tube and keep hands down at sides and hold tube up with fingers. ![]() Paper Fire Cracker 1. Cut a piece of paper into a square, 7-8 inches. 2. Fold sheet in half so the bottom edge of sheet comes within 1/2 inch of the top edge. 3. Fold in half again from side to side so the flap is on the inside. Crease the fold well!! 4. Hold the paper firecracker tightly between your thumb and index finger at the open corner where the aper is only two layers thick. 5. Quickly flick your arm and wrist downward. The inside flap of paper will pop out and make a loud "SNAP". Note: We use to make these in school out of our notebook paper. ![]() Little Harmless " Fireworks" Paper Scissors Pen Balloons-Red White & Blue Cut paper into small strips. Write jokes, funny sayings, or riddles. OR Write stunts such as: Kiss A friend Hug A Friend Sing God Bless America or any other patriotic song March in a circle, backwards, with eyes closed. Etc...etc...etc... Rollup paper and insert one in each balloon. Blow up and tie the balloons. Put all balloons on the floor. Have the kids sit on the balloons and try to pop as many as they can and collect the strips. The one with the most strips is the winner, but has to do all the stunts or you can just use your imagination and vary this anyway you want. Variation: You can also put candy in balloons instead of paper or also confetti if you don't mind the mess. BE SURE TO PICK UP ALL BROKEN BALLOON PIECES SO LITTLE ONES DO NOT PUT THEM IN THEIR MOUTH!!! ![]() |
